Washington Business Journal named Mark Colley and Michael Bernstein "Top Washington Lawyers" in its September 19-25, 2008 edition. Mr. Colley was selected as a winner for government contracts and Mr. Bernstein was selected as a finalist for bankruptcy.


Michael Goodwin Named "Leading Lawyer in Real Estate" 2008

Legal Times named Michael Goodwin one of Washington's "Leading Lawyers in Real Estate" in its September 15, 2008 issue. The article highlights the many DC area buildings he's worked on as a development transactions lawyer and the leadership role he played in establishing tax increment financing in the District. Many projects were established as a direct result of that law, including the Gallery Place complex, the Spy Museum, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and the Metrorail station at New York Avenue Northeast. The article quotes client Kingdon Gould III, who praises Mr. Goodwin for a "skill set that covers all my real estate needs. He is comprehensive, he speaks with clarity to identify issues that need resolution, and he is creative and cooperative in finding solutions."

Jerome DeHerrera Named An "Up-And-Coming Lawyer" By Law Week Colorado in 2008

Law Week Colorado named Jerome DeHerrera an "Up-And-Coming Lawyer" in its September 29, 2008 issue. Mr. DeHerrera was one of only 17 attorneys to be honored. He was noted for leading the team for Lobato v. Taylor, a class-action suit brought by residents of Costilla County to restore their historic rights to use the former Sangre de Cristo Land Grant.

Arnold & Porter ranked No. 8 in American Lawyer's "A-List" 2008, the magazine's sixth annual ranking of the nation's top 20 law firms. Ronald Lee named one of the "50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America" 2008

The National Law Journal named partner Ronald Lee one of the "50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America" in its May 26, 2008 issue. The National Law Journal sought out "minority attorneys who have had a national impact in their fields and beyond during the last five years" and who "demonstrated the power to change the law, shape public affairs, launch industries and get big things done."  Mr. Lee's practice focuses on cybersecurity, information security and privacy, and technology law and policy.  The National Law Journal noted his expertise in representing clients on novel matters in data security and security breaches, information privacy and security, and liability aspects of computer systems and networks.


Three Attorneys Named to "The 90 Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Last 30 Years" List 2008

Legal Times named Michael Sohn, Brooksley Born, and Abe Fortas to its list of "The 90 Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Last 30 Years." The list was published in Legal Times' 30th Anniversary Special Issue on May 19, 2008. Former chair of the firm Michael Sohn was recognized as a "Visionary" for his leadership skills as chair and for his career as an antitrust lawyer; retired partner Brooksley Born was recognized as a "Champion" for women's rights and women lawyers; and one of the firm's founders, Abe Fortas (d. 1982), was described as a "Pioneer" for his landmark civil rights case (Gideon v. Wainwright) and for serving on the Supreme Court.


Practical Law Company's Which Lawyer? Life Sciences Industry and Regulatory Super League 2008

Arnold & Porter was ranked No. 3 in both the Practical Law Company's Which Lawyer? Life Sciences Industry Super League table and the Regulatory Super League table for 2008. Robert Garrett named a "Leading Lawyer in Copyright and Trademark" 2008

Legal Times named Robert Garrett one of Washington's "Leading Lawyers in Copyright and Trademark" in its April 28, 2008 issue. Partner in the firm's intellectual property practice, Mr. Garrett represents major sports leagues, broadcast and cable television networks, and motion picture studios on matters involving the intersection of copyright and new technology. The article quotes Michael Mellis, general counsel of Major League Baseball Advanced Media: "Time and again, Bob Garrett is the go-to outside lawyer for the sports leagues and related organizations. There is no one else in the United States, or even the world, whom one would turn to before Bob on these types of [copyright] matters."

Timothy Macdonald Named to Denver Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" 2008

Denver Business Journal named Timothy Macdonald it its "Forty Under 40" list of business leaders in its March 7, 2008 issue. The list was determined by business leadership, community involvement, and recognition of accomplishments. Mr. Macdonald was noted for spending "hundreds of hours every year with nonprofits and on pro bono cases, and even founded some of his own philanthropic projects." Winners will be honored at a public event on March 20.

Arnold & Porter received Honorable Mention recognition by The American Lawyer in its "Litigation Department of the Year" feature, published in January 2008. The firm was highlighted for its success in savings and loan litigation and diet drug litigation. Arnold & Porter was one of 18 law firms singled out in the "Honor Roll" section. Jerome DeHerrera Receives Outstanding New Hispanic Lawyer Award 2007

The Colorado Hispanic Bar Association awarded associate Jerome DeHerrera of the firm's Denver office with the Outstanding New Hispanic Lawyer Award for 2007. Mr. DeHerrera achieved this goal by demonstrating a strong commitment to the Hispanic community and the principles of the legal profession, including his work on Lobato and helping disenfranchised students through Padres Unidos. The award will be presented to Mr. DeHerrera at the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association's Annual Banquet on January 26, 2008.


Global Arbitration Review's "GAR 30" 2007

Arnold & Porter was ranked in the Global Arbitration Review's "GAR 30," which profiles the top 30 international arbitration law firms in the world. Rankings are based on reputation, number of cases worked on, and experience. The firm ranked fourth worldwide in number of treaty-based arbitrations.

Global Arbitration Review named Jean Kalicki one of the top 30 "Women of Arbitration" in its September 2007 issue.  The all-female top 30 list was determined by research conducted for the International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration 2008 and a survey of the ArbitralWomen members.  Ms. Kalicki is a Counsel with 18 years' post-qualification experience, has sat as an arbitrator seven times, and regularly serves as counsel to sovereign states and private entities in international arbitration.

The National Law Journal named Deborah Feinstein one of the "50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America" in its May 28, 2007 issue. The National Law Journal sought out "female attorneys who have had a national impact in their fields and beyond during the last five years" and "women with the demonstrated power to change the legal landscape, shape public affairs, launch industries and do big things." Ms. Feinstein, a partner, is an antitrust lawyer who focuses on mergers and acquisitions before the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department. The National Law Journal noted her expertise in the retail, food, consumer products, healthcare, chemicals and automotive parts industries and her work representing Boston Scientific Corp., Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp., Philip Morris, Kraft, and The Kroger Co.


Scott Schreiber named a "Leading Lawyer in Business Litigation" 2007

Legal Times named Scott Schreiber one of Washington's "Leading Lawyers in Business Litigation" in its April 30, 2007 issue. Partner and co-chair of the firm's securities enforcement and litigation practice, Mr. Schreiber has clients in both private suits and public enforcement proceedings. The article notes his work on nearly 20 different securities class actions filed in 2004 against Arthur Andersen relating to its work for Qwest Communications. The piece goes on to quote Melissa Widen, associate general counsel for Andersen: "He gets so deeply involved in a case that he becomes invaluable. Internal counsel can change and people can come and go, but he's been a mainstay." Mr. Schreiber has been with Arnold & Porter for 33 years and is noted for "represent[ing] a litany of major corporations in securities and accounting fraud litigation."

Legal Times named Kevin Lavin one of Washington’s “Leading Lawyers in Dealmaking” in its June 19, 2006 issue. The article notes his work on the $1.5 billion merger of US Airways with America West and the $858 million sale of American Management Systems to CGI and CACI.
